The Majestic Whale

On a recent visit to the South Island we spent a night at Kaikoura. We were asked whether we were going out to see the whales. Unfortunately we didn't have the time but when I saw the next topic was fish I thought of the whales and the memories of seeing them on a trip across to Vancouver Island. This is my fish quilt to remember the "Majestic Whales".  Ngaire

Fish - Judith

This quilt became a challenge within a challenge, inspired by a sign above a fish shop depicting the letters in "fish" distorted into the shape of a fish.  I just had to see if I could do something similar.  This is the result.

Thank you Deb, I had fun and don't all the quilts look wonderful.
Cheers
Judith

Rainbow Fish - Helen

I have always been impressed with the colours (mainly blues) of the Rainbow Fish in the children's book, by Marcus Pfister, that I gave to one of my nieces. When Deb chose her theme I decided to make a quilt featuring a REAL Rainbow Fish. My research of this Australian/New Guinea small fish resulted in lots of information about species, habitat, feeding, popularity in aquariums etc, however, images that I could find were, to say the least, very disappointing. And so after all the research my Rainbow Fish is fictional - this is how I believe that a Rainbow Fish should look!!

Against the Flow - Deb

Oh boy! I'm loving all the quilts coming in!  Thank you all so much. Rod wants to know where we are going to hang them. I haven't worked that out yet!
My quilt is a statement about being yourself and going against the flow. Just a bit of fun. It took a long time to stitch down the 26 fish and their 26 eyes!!  Japanese cotton for the brown fish and a shot cotton for the water. All machine stitched and quilted.

Fish Quilt - Jane

This little quilt was fun to do as I love fish. Of course....I have used traditional Japanese fabrics, some being from my collection of kasuri.

What's for dinner?

Fish:  card games, "Go fish".  Card games:  dogs playing poker.  If only I could draw cats playing "Go fish".  Way too hard - think again!  I find my thought processes very interesting as I try to design these little quilts.  After all this nonsense, my cat came in and demanded food and I put out his favourite, fish.  So here is my quilt all about fish - it's my favourite food, too!

Twelve FISH plus one!

Here is your FISH quilt, Deb.
After much pain and suffering I finally got the photo onto this page. Phew!!!
I had loads of fun playing around with the woven background. Have wanted to have a go at this for a long time. Your fish quilt seemed just right.
Enjoy all your FISH quilts.

FISH "Catch of the day" stitched by Margie for Deb

I had a couple of goes at Deb’s “Fish”. First I pieced a collection of red, orange and yellow fabrics together with a blue background – they were supposed to be gold fish. That one got the thumbs down: what fish, I can’t see any fish. So here is version 2 for which I raided Bob’s tackle box and added some hooks – I do hope they stay buried in the backing. So, handle with care. Margie

Hi from Lorraine

Hi girls,
this my 2nd attempt at this, so if the first appears please forgive me. Thanks for the theme Deb, I rather left it to the last minute, as classes have kicked in again for the year, with interstate and country trips - however enjoyable they are.
I first saw the huge Nishiki Goi -[brocaded carp or Koi fish] in Chinese gardens where they have been known to live for over 200 years. They were originally bred in China over 1,000 years ago. I was fascinated by the variety of colors of the Koi.
Looking forward to seeing the other challenges, and focusing on the Harvest theme from Jane.
cheers everyone from Lorraine

The only way I could get this lot to sit OK was to make them all smaller!  At least they are all together. I'm afraid some of the images are blurry. Not sure if that's me or the photographer!!!

Well, after a lot of fiddling around (and a lot of swearing!) I have got all the 'window' quilts together!  I thought it would be fun to see them in a group. Now I'll have a go at the 'collection' ones.
Cheers,    Deb
