Water Water Everywhere - Helen

In my contemplation of the theme I remembered a poem 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This very long and tragic tale includes the lines
                            "Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink,
                             Water, water, everywhere,
                             Nor any drop to drink."
I decided to make a quilt of the mariner's view of the ocean when the ship was becalmed and the crew members were struggling with thirst.
The challenge was to stitch the seventeen strips together - straight!!

Mary

Hi Margie
This has been a fun challenge and my quilt is a bit out there.
Our Art Group were playing with sheer fabrics so I thought of you and here is the result.  Threads and bits of sheer fabric are trapped between two layers of sheer.
It is my attempt to capture a water scene.
Hope you enjoy, I posted it to you today so you should have it soon.
Love
Mary

"April Showers" stitched by Margie

We had recently been on a seaside holiday and storm clouds on the horizon promised much needed rain  - hence my theme "Water". We didn't get any real rain until May, but "April Showers" has a nicer ring to it don't you think?
Hand stitched using Valdani hand dyed silk thread on Oakshott shot cotton purchased from The Drapery which has recently opened nearby.

"Water at the Heian Shrine, Kyoto" Lynn

Still water always provides such a sense of peace. One of the many things I love about Japan are the havens of tranquility which exist in the midst of bustling cities. Behind the Heian Jingu Shrine in Kyoto, Japan is this beautiful water garden with stepping stones leading--- where?
Thank you Kerry, for the perfect "water" fabric.
