Circle of Friends - Judith

With so little time in my workroom lately this little quilt has been a work in progress for the last month. I thought the Circle of Friends block was perfect for the challenge until I was about to quilt it and realised that there were only eight friends, but we are thirteen. To solve this dilemma I placed five hand-textured circles within the circle.
Kerry I really enjoyed this challenge and it was an added bonus to be able to use techniques I had learned at Symposium in the Exploring Stitches class with Sheena Norquay.
Enjoy.

Symposium Pictures

The latest NZ symposium was held in Palmerston North.
Kerry was always busy at her stall and had lots of lovely batik fabrics to tempt us. Anna and Mary were tutoring classes and Judy and I spent time helping in other areas.
On one of the days we all seem to meet up in the Quilter's Heaven (shops) and thought - a picture of the New Zealanders.
The first includes Judy, Kerry, Anna and Ngaire.
Just as we were discussing  that we needed Mary included she came in the door.
So another picture with all the New Zealanders in our group.
Judy, Ngaire, Kerry, Anna and Mary.

The TBirds - Ngaire

Hi Kerry sorry this is late but we have had too many family commitments including the wedding of our youngest son. Anyway here is my friend's challenge quilt.
As children we would always fold up the newspaper to make paper dolls. I even did this recently for my grandchildren. So here we have four friends holding hands together.
The TBirds are four special friends, Anna, Judy, Heather and myself. We meet most weeks, sharing lots of interests, special occasions, laughter and good times together.
Thank you Kerry for a good challenge and it was great to catch up at the symposium. I will down load the photos that I have finally got sorted.  Ngaire.

A little Star of Friendship by Kerry

Thank you ladies for your lovely little quilts. Lorraine if I was an applique quilter I too would have chosen a Dog for my theme loving my two little friends as I do. I found this version of the Friendship star block on the internet and thought it was an apt interpretation of friends, we as friends are bound by ribbons that join us together.

Quilting Friends from Lynn

Thanks to Ruth B. McDowell for the inspiration for "Friends" in her book "When Quilters Gather".
I am sorry this is so late as we have had computer problems.
Kerry, enjoy your gallery of friends.
Best wishes from Lynn.

The Path to a Friend's House - Helen

I decided on a slight variation of the well known expression - The Road to a Friend's House is Never Long. The words mean, quite simply, that distance is no barrier to true friendship.
Thank you for a lovely theme Kerry - and no batiks in this quilt!
The house is from Lessa's pattern 'Seaside Village'.

Friends - Mary

Hi Kerry
When I see oyster catchers and other birds who mate for life, I always think they must be devastated when they lose a partner for any reason.

So it is for those who have lost a loved one, friends for life and then alone.

However, on a happier note, I loved seeing you all at Symposium wasn't it a great event.
Maybe we should all try to get to Christchurch in 2017!
Love
Mary

FRIENDS CHALLENGE by Pam Furniss

"Friends are Always There"

Friends have always been important to me and I have learnt to appreciate and love them even more during the loss of my best friend.

I thank you all for keeping me going on my quilting journey.

Kerry's "FRIENDS" challenge - By KayH

"Hugs"

Sharing joy, sorrow, happiness, pain, achievement, and love. That's what friends are all about.

Great concept - it really was a "challenging challenge"" ....

All the best, Kerry!
