'Fly me to the Moon' by Lorraine for Deb

Thanks for a great challenge Deb.
I had made a drawing on 'Sister Sun - Brother Moon' theme which I was going to use then I saw this photo taken by Kelly Lloyd - ABC photographer of a plane taking off over Brisbane. Here is my interpretation of her photo, hope you enjoy receiving all your little quilts. Incidentally we are up to challenge number 28 - how time flies.

By the Light of the Silvery Moon by Anna

 

I love adding words to quilts and thought this quarter moon was ideal as an 'O'. I used some silvery and white fabric with moon-like circles on it that I was going to make into a top. Ah well, this is a much better use for it! Hope you enjoy Deb.


Here is the picture of us 'Martonites' with Pam. She took a very successful class for our local club and stayed with us a number of days. She holds the title of now being the only Stitcher Across the Ditch to have met every member.

Sail along Silv'ry Moon - by Judith

Thank you Deb, I've had so much fun, it’s been so long since I’ve had a play day with stencils and fabric paint. The challenge to myself this time was to make the moon appear to sail behind the trees. I have several versions, variations on a theme. "Sail along Silv'ry Moon" was made using fabric paint sponged on to hand dyed cotton through both commercial and hand cut stencils. It was then finished with simple machine stitching.

Moon River ( Breakfast at Tiffany's) by Kay W

Such a big topic - and my husbands suggestions were definitely inappropriate!  So I decided to think laterally on this one!

One of my favourite pieces of music is 'Moon River', the theme song from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'.  Now, I asked myself, what does one get at Tiffany's?  Desirable and expensive treasures! And what do they come in? Absolutely beautiful little sky blue boxes with the palest of blue ribbons.  I am still waiting to find one under my Christmas tree - I am ever hopeful!

So this is my interpretation of Moon:  a blue Tiffany's box.

I tried to create a little quilt that would suggest the ethereal quality of moonlight; of seeing only silhouettes.  It all began with the fabric [below] which to me suggested rabbits dancing in the moonlight .  And then I added the shot cottons as the source of the moonlight. So, it could have been another blue moon for Deb, or pink, or ... Yet another log cabin variation; I think I’ve made 6 for “Stitching Across the Ditch”! Machine pieced and hand quilted.

When I was trying think of a theme for my challenge I remembered I had a piece of stitching I started a couple of years ago with a moon on it. So I thought this would be a good opportunity to finish it, and also an interesting theme for the challenge!
The indigo sun print is from a (deceased) friend, the moon is done with bleach in a Jude Hill class I did online, and I have added red embroidery stitches and quilting with Japanese silk thread.
The proportions are a little bit off because I had to make it fit our challenge measurements! I enjoyed working out how to finish this, and I now have one UFO off my list!!!
Lynn has made me a Blue moon - I wonder how many more I will get?!

Since Kerry's Workshop, I have been addicted to "inserting" circles, so "Blue Moon" had to have one.
Organza and Angelina Fibre helped to add a gauzy Japanese style cloud.
