On gossamer wings

 Stitched by Margie

An abstract depiction of the wings of a dragonfly, up close.

I have a little instrument, pictured below, described by the makers ,Van Cort, as a “Dragonfly”.   It has a multi prism lens, similar to a kaleidoscope, through which you supposedly see a dragonfly’s view of the universe. I pieced my little quilt with this in mind.

The quilt was photographed and ready to post on the blog when, quite by accident, I was tidying my sewing room and a little piece of dragonfly fabric fell on the floor – of course it had to go on to the quilt too.

Hi Lorraine,

I love the way Dragonfly wings look iridescent as they flit to and fro.
This one is in repose.  Hope you like it...

All the best,

Kay H.

DRAGONFLY WALLPAPER for Lorraine

Thanks Lorraine for the challenge.

I had this idea almost straight away.
Therefore was well ahead of time to post your little quilt.

Hope you enjoy

Dragonfly Symbol - Helen

Correct, Deb - how valuable is Google? Part of my research included this information.
"Native American Indians were a deeply spiritual people and they communicated their history, thoughts, ideas and dreams from generation to generation through symbols and signs such as the Dragonfly symbol."
"Tribes used their own colours for symbols and designs depending on the natural resources available to make native American paint".

'Dragonfly' - Deb

I had five dragonfly fabrics in my stash and used two, for the border and backing. The image is a combination of some pictures I found on the Internet. (What would we do without Google!)
I also found out there are 6,000 species of dragonflies world wide and 320 of them are found in Australia. And that dragonflies don't bite!
Hope you enjoy your dragonfly quilts Lorraine!

All in a Flutter by Kerry

Lorraine I have a couple of Dragonfly fabrics so was very happy to finally use some in my little Challenge. I had a lovely time making silk paper for the bodies, angelina fibre and foil for sparkly wings and even making my own dragonfly stamp from compressed sponge. All together a fun play with techniques, Thank you.
