When Pam set this challenge I immediately thought that we are surrounded by colours.
What colours matter most? - PEOPLE. I am sure God loves all colours.

Judith - A Spot of Colour

“Colours” presented me with many “what if moments.” I have spent the summer mulling over the possibilities and finally it was “A Spot of Colour” that demanded my attention.

At a workshop late last year I discovered pen and ink drawing and since then I have wanted to explore the possibilities of “stitch and ink” in quilt making.  This little quilt presented me with just such an opportunity.  The hand dyed mono printed fabric from some long ago workshop provided the accent colour.

Thank you Pam for a very interesting challenge. I have really enjoyed making this for you.  May be its from a way out of left field but I hope it brings you pleasure.

Ngaire - Colouring in

When I was teaching one of my jobs was to buy all the Art supplies. At the beginning of each year I had to make sure each class had enough scissors, paper paints and of course crayons. When your topic colours came up I thought of all those colourful supplies I bought. Here is a selection of the crayons for colouring in.

Kay - Fifty Shades of Green (+1)

This topic left me stumped for a while, then a friend sent me a joke email about a man's idea of the meaning of  the book, "Fifty Shades of Grey".  It was a paint colour chart of fifty different greys!  So there was my inspiration.  My favourite colour is green so I wondered if I could find fifty different ones in my stash.  No problem!  The sad part is that there is at least another fifty and probably more, that I didn't use.  It was fun going through the green drawer and finding some old friends I hadn't seen for a long time as they had worked their way down to the bottom corners and meeting some new pieces that I didn't realise were there.  So this was an interesting exercise, one I should probably repeat with my other colour groups!

The quilt is "Fifty Shades of Green (+1) because the binding is also from the green drawer, making a total of 51 greens.

The Power of Orange - Helen

A few years ago my brother Malcolm, a Geologist, and some colleagues were visiting a mine site in Papua, Indonesia, when a fantastic photograph opportunity was presented. The mine scene was completely grey - grey rock heaps, grey sky, grey road, and against this background was the contrast of the men in their vivid orange vests and white hard hats. Of the hundreds (make that thousands!!) of photographs that Malcolm has taken this is the one that everyone remembers.
I intended to recreate the scene in a landscape quilt for you, Pam, but reality eventually took over.

Deb - Paint Box

I love exploring all these themes on Google. This time I found a drawing of a paint box and a photo of lots of different paint brushes. I combined the two and came up with my paint box. I chose the background fabric and as I was cutting it out looked at the selvedge - it comes from a range called 'paintbox'! I also had a fun fabric in my stash for the back!

COLOURS BY PAM FOR PAM

When I first chose COLORS  I didn't have a clue what to do. Then I was watching "Better Homes and Gardens" and saw the person who does 'arty' stuff use a piece of canvas, tape and paint [two colos only] and made something similar to my first attempt.

I so enjoyed what I was doing that I, as you can see, have made three small quilts in different styles.

I am hoping to share my ideas with the many people I teach.

I am just loving seeing all the quilts appear on the blog.

The postie has become one of my favoutie people at the moment too!
